Summer Skin: How To Make Amends

Summer Skin: How To Make Amends

We're as much as an "Olaf" as anyone; sunny days and warm temperatures help to lift our mood and kick out those final vestiges of hermit left over from winter. As with most things in life, summer comes with a fair amount of positives and negatives.

We're going to keep this post super short and simple, because we know there's a whole bunch of other things you'd rather be doing, so here's a quick list of tips and tricks of how to ensure you're doing what you can to look after yourself this holiday season.

Tips and Tricks

  1. Stay hydrated!
Before you roll your eyes and say, "duh" because doesn't everyone know this one, you'd be surprised how many people forget to ensure H20 is on the daily intake.

Fill a drink bottle and take sips as often as you can. Alternate water with whatever is your chosen poison at festive gatherings. Before you do anything else, start your day with a small glass of water each and every day.

  2. Slip, Slop, Slap, Wrap
In case you've forgotten what this handy little rhyme actually stands for, here you go...

SLIP into some sun-safe clothing and find yourself some shade to sit under (or take shade with you in the form of a sun shelter or beach umbrella)

SLOP on some high SPF sunscreen that actually works. Consumer NZ does an annual test to determine which sunscreens are pure lies so make sure you're using one that does what it should, and doesn't upset your skin. We have a preferred brand that is proven, but do what works for you. Don't forget to reapply every two or so hours!!

SLAP on a wide-brim hat because for some reason ears and the back of your neck are areas that are forgotten during the SLOP part.

WRAP on some sunglasses with UV protection. Function can meet fashion people.

  3. Rinse off before and after your swim.
Dry hair absorbs whatever it's doused with so if it's saltwater or chlorine, your hair is going to drink it up.

Take another quick rinse after you've finished frolicking (or exercising!) in the water so your pores aren't clogged with salt or chlorine.

  4. Make friends with Aloe Vera
After a day (or even just a few hours) in the sun, your skin will benefit from some TLC in the form of a good cleanse followed up with a dash of something with Aloe Vera blended in.

As mentioned in a previous post, the benefits of Aloe Vera is indisputable and this small act can work miracles for used and abused skin.

  5. Everything in Moderation, Including Moderation
We love this little life rule because it allows us all to partake in the things that we enjoy, as long as we balance things that might be better for us than others.

Okay, that feels like a good place to leave it. We hope you take away at least a little something that helps you survive summer with an inner and outer glow.

We hope you have a glorious holiday season, and we hope to see as many of you as possible in the beautiful Bay of Islands (lockdowns allowing).

Until next time,
Sharon xoxo
